Using your already existing domain

You can always use your already existing domain with your Voog website.

Redirecting your web address to Voog

Once you've subscribed for Voog you can redirect your web address (e.g. mycompany.com, mycompany.co.uk) to Voog for it to display your website.

If the domain has been bought from another registrar, the domain must be imported to your Voog account and the A-record must be directed to Voog's servers' IP address 85.222.234.14.

Importing an external domain to Voog

First, you must tie your domain name to your Voog website. This is necessary for our system to know which site should be shown as a response to yourdomain.com.

Log onto your Voog website, which you want to add an external domain to, and go to Settings > Domains.
From the button "Add new", choose "Import" and enter your domain name. NB! Write your domain without the www-prefix, e.g. instead of writing www.example.com, write example.com. The domain with the www-prefix will be recognised automatically.

Changing the DNS records

After the domain is imported to your site, you must change the DNS records in your registrar's management system.

  1. Log onto the registrar's management system.
  2. Find the option to redirect the domain under name server (DNS) settings. This may be called "IP Forwarding" or "Modifying an A-record". You will usually find this under "Advanced DNS management".
  3. Change the domain's A-record to Voog's server's IP address: 85.222.234.14. Add the domain name into the A-record without the www-prefix, e.g. example.com.
  4. Add a CNAME record for the www-domain: the type should be CNAME, the value should be example.com, and the name should be www.example.com.

Your CNAME and A-record should now look something like this:

NAMETYPEVALUE
example.comA85.222.234.14
www.example.comCNAMEexample.com

NB! After altering the A-record, it may take up to 48 hours before the altered record spreads over all of the internet and the domain starts showing your Voog site. This depends on the domain's TTL (time to live) settings.
